pregnancy…20 weeks (halfway!!!)

We’ve made it to the halfway point!!!!

I can’t tell you how excited that makes me feel.  At the same time, I gotta be honest  – this pregnancy has been my least favorite of the three kids.  Just when I thought the nausea was coming to an end, I spent the weekend feeling pretty horrible (and even threw up again – something that hasn’t happened in a month or so).  August 21st marked the start of the morning sickness, so we’re over THREE months of feeling like this – typically I’d get to this point and be ASTONISHED that I’m already halfway, but this pregnancy, I’m a little letdown that I still have 20 weeks to go.  I hate (hate, hate) to be a Debbie Downer here on the blog, but this is what I’m dealing with, day in and out plus I like to be dramaticI’m blessed, thankful and prepared to be sick until April.  I just can’t wait to meet this little GUY (in case you missed last week’s announcement, we’re having a BOY!).

Let’s see what else is going on, shall we?

What is baby up to at 20 weeks?

(from BabyCenter.com)

  • Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now.  He’s also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — about the size of a banana.
  • He’s swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system.
  • He’s also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you’ll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).  <-oh bless.  I remember this stuff.

How is mama feeling?

No striped panty bump pic this week.  Travis got home too late from work last night.  Wah-wah.  Come back next week – I’ll be HUGE!

Fitness

I logged a total of 8 hours working out last week!  Three bootcamps, three walks and 2 strength sessions.  Since my uterus is getting heavier, I notice more and more that I can’t do any sort of jumping – it just doesn’t feel good.  I modify everything that has a plyometric component to it (think one-legged jumping jacks, burpees without the jump at the top, etc).

Pregnant sisters…due just FIVE days apart!!  (Katy’s having a girl!)

Sleep

Going well.  Thinking about getting THIS pillow and trying to justify that outrageous price.

Belly Button?

In.

Movement

YES – more “wallering” and light kicks than anything else.

Highlights

We had our 20-week anatomy scan last Tuesday and everything went well!!  Baby boy (for whom we have no name) looks perfect – great heartbeat, huge head.  He was laying in an odd position so the tech couldn’t get a good look at some of his anatomy.  This just means I’ll get to go back again in a few weeks for another look at him! :)

Symptoms

  • Nausea.  Sigh.
  • Hemorrhoids. <- boys, look away.  I’m only disclosing this so other pregnant mamas can feel some gross connectedness.  Yep, I’ve got some not so fun side effects of pregnancy constipation going on.  I’m told a stool softener and lots of fiber will help.  Good to know.
  • Round Ligament Pain.

Cravings

Still digging fresh foods and LOTS of avocado!  (Sweets are really hit or miss, although I did find a Krusteaz Pumpkin Bar mix at Walmart, made it, loved it, ended up going back to buy 5 more boxes.  No joke.)

  1. I hope you continue feeling good!!! I’m 13 weeks now and have had so much nausea and morning sickness. Also I’m craving a turkey deli sandwich. Is it true that it’s not safe to eat turkey deli meat?

    1. You can also eat it if you heat it to boiling. I make roast beef dips – using nitrate free meat.

I’ve been craving an Italian style sandwich my whole pregnancy (but boiling all those meats would be a pain) – all this boy wants is meat and cheese! About 2 more months and I can give into the craving.

  2. I’ve been following your blog for awhile, and I’ve left a few comments before. As someone who has had three miscarriages, two of which occurred at the same time as yours, I am so very happy to hear of your news! Wishing you all the best.
