We MADE IT!! 14 weeks marks the start of the SECOND trimester! I gotta be honest here. Some days, I still have a hard time believing that this is a healthy pregnancy. Some days, I wish I had a doppler that could pick up the heartbeat at any time I fancied (I might actually rent one – there’s a company called Stork Radio that loans them out for about $25/month). Some days even the slightest cramp makes me wonder.
But then…
I remember about God’s grace. His abundant grace for this life should it continue AND His abundant grace in all the “could happens.” While the faith I have in MYSELF might waiver, I have complete trust in God’s grace!
What is baby up to at 14 weeks?
(from BabyCenter.com)
- From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces.
- The baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck it’s thumb!
- By the end of this week, the arms will have grown to a length that’s in proportion to the rest of it’s body.
How is mama feeling?
Weight Gain
I’ve GAINED 2 pounds this past week!! (Thrilled! Is that weird?) I’m guessing it’s due to the three steaks that I ate – baby can’t seem to get enough red meat. Food, in general, is much more appealing now. I’ll do a WIAW post tomorrow and show you some of the meals and snacks I’m digging right now.
Fitness
I hit 7 hours of movement again this week! 3 Bootcamp classes, 3 walks with Travis and the kids and 1 lifting session (chest and shoulders). I’m starting to notice an increase in my energy level and a decrease in my dizziness. Wahoo!!!
Sleep
Sleep has improved. I’m getting anywhere from 9 to 11 hours every night (with multiple potty wake-ups).
Movement
None yet.
Symptoms
- Nausea (yep. It’s still hanging around. Slowly getting better though. I’m hoping this will be the LAST week!)
- Increasing energy!
- Tender breasts
- Food aversions
- Increasing appetite (yay!)
Cravings
- (Still) Anything salty and MEAT!
- Butter. On baked potatoes, muffins, etc. These food items are merely holding devices for butter.
- Apples with sea salt. Apples are so good right now – I’ve been eating 2 a day.

Hooray for the second trimester! Glad you are feeling better. And butter, yum, I still can’t get enough of that, and I was never too into it before this pregnancy. I’m excited for the way you’re doing your pictures. I think it’ll be cool seeing your belly grow and change set up with the same frame.
Christin@christinjoyful says:
glad you’re feeling better and better! YES I would
Kammie @ Sensual Appeal says:
This is awesome. I love that you’re talking about all the things that are happening. I’ve never been pregnant but it makes me almost more prepared for when the time does come. Hope your nausea subsides soon!

I read but don’t always comment so.. I must say I am soooooooo happy for you!!!!
Allison says:
I totally get the butter comment! Pregnant or not I love it! And what’s with the apple addiction while preggers? I experienced the same thing, at least it’s a healthy craving :)
Kim says:
Congrats on feeling better and on your renewed energy! I really enjoy your blog and would love to read your info on pregnancy fitness modifications!
Heather @ Better With Veggies says:
It strikes me very funny to know the baby can pee now – and a little gross. I guess it just mixes up with all the stuff in there? Hehe – the things I pick up on. :)
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says:
I had a friend let me borrow her doppler and I really enjoyed being able to listen to the heartbeat whenever I wanted. I’m sure you already know this, but if you do get one, make sure it’s a hospital-quality one. My OBGYN warned me that many of the ones they sell on the market don’t work until the baby is much bigger, so they can actually make you MORE nervous! :)
calee says:
YAY baby and YAY increased appetite! I’m with you on that rental from Stork. But I feel like you’d make yourself crazy … so don’t do it. Just have faith!

so happy to read this!! :)

Yay for making it to the 2nd trimester! Congrats! I’d love to hear about fitness modifications for pregnancy. I’m 7 weeks pregnant, and prior to the past year where I worked my butt off and lost 50 pounds, I wasn’t a regular exerciser…and in the yucks of the 1st trimester, I find it hard to know what to do and how hard to push myself.
Bonnie says:
So thrilled! To hear about the weight gain and appeal of food again and God’s grace above ALL makes me so joy-filled for you…and your hamstrings look amazing, just to comment on the physical. ;) Keep trusting and growing a healthy little baby!

Congrats on making it to the second trimester — that’s amazing! So glad to hear you’re feeling better. I’m not sure how I feel about the whole apple and sea salt thing, but I suppose it’s less weird than pickles and vanilla ice cream ;).
Lee says:
We actually did buy a doppler. You can get one on ebay for around $55. Glad you are starting to feel better.
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says:
WOOO!!!! I know how big those gains are after losing :) Congrats!

Tiffany says:
Yay for second trimester! I just hit it myself too and the return of energy is great! I’m also craving red meat and can’t get enough apples and oranges. I was thinking on buying a doppler too because as a first time mom, I’m super nervous about each cramp and ache. It’s also really fun to hear the little heartbeat! Some of the prices on Amazon are reasonable too.
Tara | Treble in the Kitchen says:
Yay for everything staying good and healthy!! :)
