pregnancy: 13 weeks

Welp.  We’re nearing the end of the first trimester (some people say this is the start of the 2nd trimester, others say next week.  My pregnancy book goes by the latter so that’s what I’ll stick with.)  I’m just SO THANKFUL to have made it past the initial “scary” period – my chances of miscarrying significantly decrease with every week that passes now!

I asked you all last week what you preferred in terms of pregnancy updates.  The vote was pretty unanimous for WEEKLY updates!  Exciting!  I’ll try my darndest to oblige.  Here’s what’s happening in WEEK 13.

13Weeks - 01

What is baby up to at 13 weeks?

(from BabyCenter.com)

  • Your baby is almost 3 inches long (about the size of a pea pod) and weighs nearly an ounce.
  • Fingerprints have formed on your baby’s tiny fingertips and her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin
  • The body is starting to catch up with the head — which makes up just a third of the baby’s body size now.

How is mama feeling?

Weight Gain

I’m still sitting at a 10 pound LOSS.  I’m not concerned about this in the least – the weight gain will come SOON.  My appetite is creeping back bit by bit every day!

Fitness

This week, I logged 7 hours of exercise – a record for this pregnancy!  3 Bootcamps, 2 lifting sessions and 2 walks.

Sleep

Sleep was a little harder this week because I’ve weaned myself off of the Phenergan that I had been taking.  Phenergan is an anti-nausea medicine that also makes you supremely sleepy.  I think taking this away mixed with a slight increase in energy has made solid sleep more difficult, but I really didn’t like the way it made me feel so I stopped taking it.  (I’m sure getting up to pee at least 7 times a night doesn’t help with the REM cycling either.)

Movement

None yet but soon!!  When I went in last week for an ultrasound, the tech was SO surprised with how active this baby is!  As a third time mom, I’m told I’ll be able to feel it a little earlier too.  Any moms out there agree with this?  Comment below.

Symptoms

  • Nausea (slowly getting better!)
  • Light headedness/Dizziness
  • Extremely Low Blood Pressure
  • Tender breasts
  • Food aversions
  • Increasing appetite (yay!)

Cravings

  • Anything salty.

013

Don’t be fooled – I didn’t cook.  This is a microwave heat-up meal that I put on a fancy plate and dumped parmesan cheese on.

  • MEAT.  Outback steak.  Filet mignon.  Meat lasagna (my momma’s making me one TODAY!)

QUESTION:  What are YOU craving right now??  Any other pregnant mamas out there?

  1. Sounds like you are doing quite well. We all experience pregnancy in different ways, some easier than others. One factor I believe needs a lot of extra emphasis is positive thinking. Sure food and exercise is vital but feeling good about yourself can made the awkward times a little easier to handle.

  2. YAY!! Glad to hear you are feeling better!!

Curiously enough, i’m at 24 week with my first lil one (a GIRL!!) and I first felt her move during week 13! I was in yoga class(doing Happy Baby pose, actually lol) but I felt this tiny THUD! and I was like WHOA! that couldn’t have just been gas or something could it? I wasn’t sure until a couple weeks later when I felt her move again and it felt the same :)

Right now i’m craving milk, skittles, and breads mostly, but trying to break that up with lean proteins and greens as much as possible, because good grief baby, you need some healthy goodness too! :)

  3. So glad you’re getting your appetite back!! Such good news. Also, I wish I craved any protein. I force fed myself some chicken at lunch today because I realized I hadn’t had any protein in 3 days. Eat some steak of me!

  4. Wow, 7 workouts this week is great! My first trimesters, workouts went down the tube. Thankfully it got much better in the second and third. And I felt baby #2 earlier than I felt baby #1, I think just because I was able to recognize what the movements were earlier on. Anyway, SO excited for you! And so incredibly grateful that you’re at 13 weeks <3

  5. Glad I found your blog! I just entered my third trimester, first pregnancy. No cravings for me other than fruit and hydration (although during second trimester there were definitely some hankerings for chocolate)! I’ve just started posting my own updates on my blog (a little late, but better than never I guess!)

Baby Girl is moving and flipping around all the time and I LOVE it. :)

  6. Yay for another week in the books! I’m 22 weeks and for the past 2 days I can’t stop thinking about a cupcake! I was listening to the radio yesterday morning and a woman called in to say she likes to cut the bottom off a cupcake and smash it on the top to make a frosting sandwich. Well, I can’t stop thinking about her and those darn cupcakes now! haha:-)

  7. I was also told that I would feel each baby moving more than I did with the last, but I didn’t find that to be true. I thought it might have been because I was so busy and distracted with the other boys. I worried about it a lot, but each time everything was fine! I’m so excited for you! :)

  8. I’m at 22 weeks and still don’t feel much movement but he’s wriggling around in there, I see it on the ultrasounds. I have an anterior placenta, which is why I can’t feel much of anything. Boo.
