I’ll make this really short.

(Because it’s New Year’s Eve and NO ONE should be reading blogs and geeking out on their computer.  You should be getting pissed drunk, taking shots out of someone’s belly button.  That’s the plan for us, at least.)

I’m not making any resolutions for 2012.  Or goals.  Or life changes.

They just don’t sit well with me.  I either a) fail to complete said goal and feel worse than when I started or b) take my goal to an extreme.

So I just don’t go there.

Now that I downed goal setting, I will say one thing that I want to do better.  Every year and every day.

BE MORE PRESENT.

Particularly when it comes to my parenting.

These years are FLEETING!  I want to get down on the floor and roll around.  I want to get sucked into Henry’s imaginary world.  I want to respond with more than a non-committal “Oh, really” when Henry asks, “Did ya see that, Mom?  Did ya see?”  Because “Oh, really” isn’t even an appropriate response to that question.

So that’s my un-goal goal.  I won’t fail.  I just can’t.

QUESTION:  Do you make resolutions or goals?  What are they?

  1. I love that you’ve figured out what does and doesn’t work for you in terms of goal setting. This year, I’m trying something a little different–an overall theme, and several more specific goals. I think I’m still a the trial and error phase of figuring out what works, but I love the theme idea…I can’t really “fail” or “succeed” in it.

  2. in 2012, i resolve to run 19 marathons, eat more hot dogs, and join a marching band. oh, and take shots out of your belly button.

  3. Happy New Year!

I’ve been setting resolutions for the past few years, but I never remember to check back with them to see if I’ve made progress. I looked at mine from last year though and I did okay! It feels good to think about what I want to be better at, but it is hard to stick to everything most of the time!

  4. I’m going more with a general theme for the year rather than setting resolutions… I will set intentions throughout the year as I see fit like I always do, but for now I just want to make the most of my new endeavors (yoga, massage) and see where life takes me. Have a wonderful evening, friend!!

  5. YEAH!! Amen to that, friend! Presence is the best gift of all – to family, friends, your children, yourself. Cheers to 2012 and lots of presence!!!
