I’ve been really bad about telling you guys about my daily workouts. That needs to change. I personally love reading about what other people are doing on a daily basis regarding their fitness. It can be very inspirational and I get ideas for my own workouts.
So, you have my word, I’ll try to be better about including my workouts in the daily post. More so for myself, so I can go back through and see what I did and hopefully, to see how far I’ve come. I’m selfish like that.
I’ll backtrack a little and tell you about yesterday’s awesome workout. My sister recently joined THE local fitness center. I say “THE” because, while it’s not the only one in town, it is the one gym that has it all: a racquetball court, a pool, classes, weights, cardio, and most importantly to me, childcare.
The only kicker: $$$ This fitness center (which I won’t directly call out) costs an arm and a leg. AND Clara, my ONE year old, counts as a participating member if I want to use the childcare!?!? I can just see her now… getting addicted to the stairmill.
Needless to say, I haven’t been able to talk Travis into joining said gym. He thinks it’s pretentious and would rather workout in his “sweat box” with manly men in cut-off shirts and rusty dumbbells. To be clear, the manly men are wearing the cut-off shirts, not Travis. He reserves that eye-candy for the house, people.
What was I talking about? Oh yeah, my workout yesterday.
Mom watched the kids while Katy and I went to the “Fitness Bootcamp” class. Ha, I get a good laugh when I see the names that gyms assign to their group classes. Power Flex, Booty Burn, Latin Dance Explosion. Just call it what it is: 20 people sweating to pirated techno music.
The Bootcamp was pretty intense. When we first got there, I looked around to size up the competition. I’ll be honest and say that the group of older women made me doubt the intensity of the class. Boy, was I wrong! It ended up being 60 minutes of plyometrics, weights (body weight and dumbbell), aerobics, and kickboxing. We finished the class with 30 Bosu Kickback/Pushup Combos and 100 Bosu Mountain Climbers. Sweat was pouring. I like it when that happens. It means I can eat more brownies. :)
I had TWO passes, so we went again this morning. My body was sore in all sorts of weird places, so we opted for cardio. High Intensity Interval Training, to be exact.
HIIT (Treadmill) – Incline 1.5
- 5 minute warmup – walking 4.3 mph
- 2 min. – 6.0 mph
- 2 min. – 7.0 mph
- 1 min. – 8.0 mph
- 2 min. – 6.0 mph
- 2 min. – 7.1 mph
- 1 min. – 8.1 mph
- 2 min. – 6.0 mph
- 2 min. – 7.2 mph
- 1 min. – 8.2 mph
- 2 min. – 6.0 mph
- 2 min. – 7.3 mph
- 1 min. – 8.3 mph
- 2 min. – 6.0 mph
- 2 min. – 7.4 mph
- 1 min. – 8.4 mph
- 2 min. – COOLDOWN – walking 4.0 mph
Looking back at this now, I think I could have easily increased my 6.0’s by the same 0.1 increments, like I did with the 7’s and 8’s. After the treadmill, we moved to a new-to-me machine, the Precor AMT. It’s an elliptical/stair climber. It’s pretty awesome.
HIIT (AMT) – Fat Burner Mode – level 4
- 2 min. – Stair Climber
- 1 min. – Elliptical
- 2 min. – Long Strides
- Repeat for 28 minutes total
We finished up with 10 minutes of Core work. I love working out with my sister. Sad that she’ll start back up with school next week (she teaches high school math). I cherish our summers together!
Total time: 58 minutes Cardio + 10 min. Abs
And now we’re current on the workouts. Just FYI, Sunday is always my rest day. After my workout this morning, I came home and nursed Clara, got a shower and made breakfast.
Chobani, Peanut Butter, GNU Fiber & Flavor Bar – Cinnamon Raisin
The rest of the day will probably involve yard-saling and running some errands. Tonight, Travis and I got a babysitter and we’re going out to dinner!
Yay for the weekend! Go enjoy your own!!
splendid…lindsay
i love working out and spending sister time with you! you know you could always meet me at the gym before work….i’ll meet you there at 6 on Monday morning…..BAHAHAHAHA!
ahaha i totally pictured her steppin’ away on the stairmill. that’s hilarious and ridiculous! you are kind of incredibly funny. the pirated music bit had me laughing out loud. i am glad i have time to read blogs today :) thanks for the linkage at the beginning!
I don’t have the heart to tell her that she needs to cut back on the nursing, and up the HIIT! I’ll have to post pictures of her legs sometime.
