the sunshine award

Oh hey, LOOOOOK!!  I actually have a reason to write something today!  My pal, Janetha, nominated me for the Sunshine Award.  This basically means she thinks I’m cool and worthy – sometimes you need a fake online reminder.  Feeling the love.  Let’s get to it, shall we?

Rules:

1. Include award logo in a post or on your blog.
2. Link to the person who nominated you.
3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award and ask them 10 questions.

Here are the questions Janetha asked…(one of the reasons I fell in love with J is because she never capitalizes, so I’m not changing the format of her questions.)

1. do you believe in aliens? why or why not.

No.  Or rather, I really haven’t given it much thought.  I suppose there *could* be some other life forms out there, but my small human brain just doesn’t even want to go there.

2. if you could do ANYTHING in the world and have that be your career and your skills, paycheck, or anything else was not an object.. what would you do?

I’d be a professional outdoors(wo)man.  Like I’d to get paid to hike and ski and run and walk in the prettiest places on the planet.  I’m not sure why anyone would pay me to frolic around but that would be my dream for sure.  Being outside (with access to a hot shower) makes me the happiest.

3. what is your earliest childhood memory?

Oh gosh.  I’m not sure this is the FIRST one, but a very early memory I have was getting an play apron and broom for either a birthday or Christmas and “cleaning” the house right before my dad got home from work.  He’d cover me in praise and I remember feeling pretty awesome about helping Mom clean the house.

4. what’s for dinner tonight?

Food.  I don’t want to talk about it.  (Day 26 of nausea. Sad smile)

5. what was the most fabulous vacation you have ever been on in your entire life?

When I was 12?, my family took a 2-week vacation to Colorado, Wyoming and Montana!  It was my first experience flying (which I still LOVE to this day), but also we made some of the best memories out there.  It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to move to Colorado post-wedding (luckily Travis agreed).  I think I was at the perfect age to enjoy each little spot we traveled too AND I appreciated the blessing of my parents taking me on the trip.  I want to re-create it with my kids!

6. if you HAD to give up one of your senses (touch, taste, sight, hearing, or smell) which would it be?

Hmmm…either touch or smell.  But I’ll go with TOUCH – there are some pretty great smells out there (dry leaves, lavender, a fresh baby, coffee, men’s deodorant).  I think I could live without touch.

7. would you rather always be super freezing cold or ridiculously overheating hot? (and no, you can’t have a warm blanket or AC to combat the issue!)

Overheating hot.  Being cold is one of the worst feelings – your whole body tenses up and you feel anxious and unsettled.  Bring on the heat!

8. why did you start blogging?

From an older post, but I think it answers the question well.

Did you know that I started Lindsay’s List on a whim one day when I was twiddling my thumbs?

It’s true. I do actually twiddle my thumbs – it’s a tick I have.

This genius blogging venture might never have happened had it not been for my desire to complicate and overschedule my life.

Let me take you back in my hot tub time machine.  {Guys. Pretend we’re in a time machine. I’m making a mechanical sound right now for full effect. I wish you could hear it. We’ve landed in July of 2011. What a spooky world.}

I had a one year old and a three year old, both of whom took daily TWO to THREE hour-long naps. I wasn’t working at the Fitness Center yet. I wasn’t performing in any shows at the theater. I wasn’t doing much of anything besides being a mom, which yes, is a job in and of itself. But I was on top of it.

And I was bored.

Somehow I found this blog, which led me to this blog, which led me to this blog. And many others followed.

It was after reading these blogs that I thought I might like to try my hand at writing. Healthy living writing, simply because that’s what I knew and the type of blogs that I enjoyed reading.

(Actually, the type of blogs I enjoy reading are WITTY blogs. Written by people that share my sense of humor. People who write as if they are actually having a conversation with you. People who overuse the words “awesome” and “gnarly” because they’re happy about life. People who know how to tell a good story. Hot tub time machine-kind of stories. I like those types of writers.)

Blanket answer:  I was bored.

9. what was the last compliment you received and what was the last one you paid to someone?

I honestly thought on this for a good 10 minutes and can’t remember the last compliment I paid someone.  This is normally something I’m really good at.  As far as compliment received goes, Travis always tells me that I’m strong, especially going through this morning sickness.  That’s a huge compliment right now.

10. what is your most favorite thing to eat?

Again with the food!  I kid, I kid.  I know Janetha all to well and she LOVES her food!  I normally do too.  I can’t pick just one (sorry) so here’s a short list:

  • All breakfast foods (biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles) <-I could easily eat breakfast foods at any time of the day and be oh so happy.
  • Chocolate (dark)
  • Oreo mudpie
  • Homemade strawberry muffins with real butter
  • My daddy’s roast with gravy and mashed potatoes

SOON I’ll find these things appetizing!  Look out world!

  1. I am sorry about your nausea!! Dang that stuff SUCKS. Girl, I know it. You’ve got this–you ARE strong!

I would never give up touch, sorry. Probably hearing I think? There’s so much crap out there that I don’t need to hear anyways!

  2. whaaaaaat? no touch?? this from the woman who talks about sex in almost every post?? the nausea is getting to your head!!
I’m with you on the breakfast foods- I just want pancakes 24/7, not asking too much, right?

  3. I would give up smell in a SECOND. So funny, touch would probably be one of the last on my list.

…and thanks for the tag! We’ll see if I can get my act together enough to participate. Whether I do, or I don’t, just know I love you and am praying for you and that dang nausea (and that sweet babe you’re cooking) every day.

  4. Thanks for including me. :) I love the first question. I’ve got another set of questions to answer too, so I’ll do a big ol’ sunshiney post.

I so agree with #2. Used to work at a canoe rental and it remains my favorite job I ever had.
