We nap on Thanksgiving afternoon.
We eat around 6 on Thanksgiving night. Then again around 9.
These are all traditions, for which I’m thankful for.
The hike, however, just sets the tone for the day. Relaxed. Beautiful. Blessed. Being outside, in God’s creation, with the people you love, breathing in His richness.
Psalm 106:1 – Praise the Lord! Give THANKS to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever!!
This is Henry.
He’s thankful for:
George Lucas.
The way he looks just like his father (a literal “spanking shield”).
Grilled Cheese, Cheese Quesadillas, String Cheese, Eggs and Cheese. Cheese in any form, even spoken – see picture above.
This is my sister, Katy.
She’s thankful for:
Her firefighter/welder/farmer husband and two pups.
The ability to bake sweet treats, far surpassing her sister in any baking talent.
The Pythagorean theorem and other geeky math stuff.
This is Travis.
He’s thankful for:
ThinkGeek.com, guitars, Final Fantasy.
The knowledge that he’s smarter than most people in a room.
Cookies and Cream Ice cream and peanut butter, at a 1:1 Ratio.
His hot and sassy wife.
This is Clara.
She’s thankful for:
Mama’s Milk and table scraps.
Both sets of Nana’s, who keep her cheeks rosy red with lipstick kisses.
Her special quilt, her fast growing baby doll collection and anything else she can cuddle (Henry included).
This is Lindsay.
She’s thankful for:
Flannel snowman sheets, Hawaiian Hazelnut K-Cups, God’s forgiveness and grace.
Mobility and health, for wrinkles around her eyes.
Her sweet, sweet babies and a shagadelic husband.
Friends like you.
Happiest of days, from my family to yours!
splendid…lindsay
What a beautiful post. I love your tradition of a morning hike and later dinner. I wanted to take a walk on Thanksgiving, but by the time we were done cooking & eating it was dark outside already!
I know – I thought we might be able to take a short stroll after dinner – hate that it gets dark so early!
I am so thankful for YOOOOUUUUU and that I get to call you a friend. <3
"The knowledge that he’s smarter than most people in a room…" that is awesome. I indeed gave thanks for my common sense and my smarts. I do not ever take that for granted!
What a perfect day – I wish I could have hiked with you all. SOMEDAY SOON… I WILL hike with you! ;)
YES you will!! The place we’re staying in Boulder is RIGHT below the Flatirons! We can step out our door and hike! :)
Glad to call you friend too!
I think that a morning hike is one of the best thanksgiving traditions I’ve heard of! Your family is beautiful. Kiss them and love them and have a wonderful Thanksgiving day! You managed to squeeze my heart and make me laugh with your thankful post.
oh goodie – glad to make you smile! How was your Tday?
Those are some good good traditions.
Thanks, Allie!! God is so gracious!
Beautiful! All of it. All of you. I can’t WAIT to meet you and your family in April. Just.can’t.wait. Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful that we are friends.
oh man! I can’t WAIT! Come January, I need your help on finding a furnished house/apartment!
So i see a beautiful godly woman, a nice a**, and an awesome family. Oh thats YOU!
Travis agrees with all of that, specially the nice a**!
Aw this might be my favorite post of yours cause I feel like I’ve kinda met your family and hence we are THAT much closer!
I’m with Henry. VERY thankful for George Lucas!
Have a wonderful thanksgiving! XOXO
We did! Hope you did as well…love you!
I love the photos in this post – looks like a fun morning was had by all! I’m thankful for the ability to run (even when it’s not always fun), thoughtful family who went out of their way to make vegan-friendly food at Thanksgiving, a long weekend of relaxation, and my wonderful hubby & cute puppies! :)
What a nice family!! Did you have Tofurky? Is that even vegan (clueless)?
Oh Lindsay- Wish I was hiking with you and your family. So thankful for your friendship. Hugs to your whole fam and enjoy your night! :) Reading this totally jst made me smile. :)
You’d have loved this hike! 5 miles..a great workout! Maybe we can hike in Boulder come May!
What a beautiful hike! Sounds like the perfect way to start any day, and especially Thanksgiving.
Hope you and yours are having the best Thanksgiving ever.
Also, PS- “shagadelic” may just be my new favorite word.
And PPS- how do you manage to look so pretty when you’ve been hiking AND you’re wearing a beanie?? I look like a strawberry marshmallow when I’m hiking in the cold air!
Thanks, Dominique! Happy Thanksgiving to you!!
P.S. I’m only wearing the beanie because my hair is a grease pit! ;)
