We consume A LOT of protein powder in this house.  Like A LOT.


In fact, I use some form of protein powder almost daily, whether it be in my morning oatmeal, in yogurt, or just mixed with water as a post workout shake.


Or sometimes, I’ll just add a scoop to my baked goods….


And by baked goods, I mean Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate brownies with Reese’s PB chips, under baked by at LEAST 10 minutes.  I have it down to a science.

As you may have noticed in the earlier picture, currently, the only brand of protein powder that we’re using is Optimum Nutrition.   It’s most certainly a favorite.  I’ve never purchased a canister of O.N. protein powder that I didn’t like!

A quick overview of my O.N. arsenal:

Gold Standard 100% Whey (Chocolate and Natural Vanilla) – which contains no artificial sweeteners and flavors) – I typically use Whey as a post workout meal because it’s quickly digested, providing my muscles with the protein they need for repair.

Gold Standard 100% Casein (Chocolate PB) – Casein takes a bit longer to digest – it’s a time released amino acid profile, so it’s great for when I want to stay fuller longer (added to oats or yogurt).  Many weightlifters use Casein to fuel their bodies through the night, decreasing the risk of going into a catabolic state and losing muscle tissue.

Nitro Core 24 (Vanilla Ice Cream) – Nitro Core 24 has TEN different types of protein!  From ultra-fast acting, partially hydrolyzed whey proteins to much more slowly-digested micellar casein proteins, NitroCore 24 is a full-spectrum, sustained-release protein blend designed to be used any time of the day or night.  Another one that I add to my oats or to baked goods brownies!

    I use it in my oats, and have been trying to make smoothies with it as of late. I only have one flavor, though (vanilla), and it gets really boring after awhile. It was so expensive, though, so I’m trying to use it up :P

  3. One way to use protein powder? How about three ;)? I liked to throw protein powder in my smoothies, or mix it in with a frozen banana to make a “shake.” Protein pancakes (pumpkin style) have also been a big part of my meals lately.

  4. I use ON Banana Casein Protein, as well as ON Hydro Whey, for my bedtime treat: Banana Bread!

    6 Egg whites
    Some baking soda/powder
    2 scoops of ON Casein banana
    1 banana

    All in a blender.

    All in a suitable baking tray in a pre-set oven at 190 degrees celcius.



  5. Argh! I love your blog and now I love your giveaway! I use protein powder on a daily basis, but rarely as a shake/by itself. My favorite is to make foodsofapril’s blog protein brownies and put a dollap of greek yogurt on top…yum! Decadent chocolate before bed? Don’t mind if I do!

  6. I use make a shake upon waking up, and after workout. I just moved out of my parents house, and am about to have a baby with my beautiful girlfriend, so I cannot afford expensive supplements; I’v lowered myself to drinking 8oz of raw eggwhites with a scoop of nesquick as my morning shake – have pity on me Lindsay! lol

  7. I use ON in my oatmeal in the morning, pre and post workout with water and again before bed.

  8. I stack ON whey (mocha cappucino!) and ON creatine in a shake after my workouts and finish my night off with ON casein (chocolate peanut butter!)

  9. I use ON Whey in my oatmeal, some times in my coffee and always as a pre-workout shake. I actually have fallen in love with their new AMINO pre-workout stuff. It rocks!

  10. I love using protein powder to make “rice pudding!” I mix cooked brown rice with milk (skim or unsweetened almond) to make a pudding consistency; then add cinnamon, a handful of raisins, and a scoop of vanilla protein powder and microwave 1 minute at a time until it’s hot. It’s like dessert for breakfast!

  11. I use protein powder to make delicious no-bake “cookies”. Oatmeal, natural peanut butter, and chocolate protein powder. Tiny splash of skim milk to bring it all together and then I either shape it into balls or bars. YUM!!

  12. I like protein powder in my yogurt (along with chia seeds and granola) to make me full longer.

  13. I blend it with milk and cottage cheese for a protein shake. Don’t knock the cottage cheese addition till you’ve tried it – it’s the key to a CREAMY shake!!

  14. I use 100% gold standard whey. its the best on the market hands down. I only use ON products for everything i need to workout !

  16. My favorite ON product is Pro Complex Gainer DOUBLE CHOCOLATE. If the name itself doesn’t do this protein justice, I don’t know what will. My favorite way is the simple way, i start with an ON shaker because my hand actually fits inside when its time to wash it. I i measure out 24 ounces of water, throw in a delicious scoop of Pro Complex Gainer, then I top it off with a cup of raw oatmeal. I let it sit for a few minutes after shaking, and WHALA! you have a delicious protein drink with a little texture!

    our favorite and most used, simply in a smoothie (enjoying one now!). I love to bake with it too – making bars or bites with protein.

  20. I Also Use Hydro Whey to make chocolate Protein almond cakes,

    How to make: first add – 3 rounded scoops of Optimum Hydro whey into a large mixing bowl.

    second add 4 cups of oats – then add 3tbs of Peanut butter into a cup with skim milk (no fat milk) then put the cup into the microwave to make the peanut butter melt with the skim milk. then add that to the mixing bowl with the oats and hydro whey stir it up until all of it is mixed up.

    then add 2 eggs mix them into to bowl then add some low fat baking coco only 1-2 teaspoons for flavor. next you must lay out a tray with baking paper on top. then pour the batter of oats from your mixing bowl onto the tray. put it in the oven on high 200degrees for upto 20 mins. after that make your top layer by adding a chocolate mix of whey 100% gold standard double chocolate into a bowl with more peanut butter and 1 cup of alomds mix that up and wait. once your batter is cooked remove it from the oven and layout the top chocolate layer of whey and almonds on top of it then put it into the fridge for 30 mins.

    after it has gone cold you can enjoy your ultimate chocolate hydro whey cake/brownies/bars ect. you can cut it up eat it how you like. it is great for a pre workout/ post workout snack to spike your insulin after workouts.

  24. I like to make a Whey Protein Sweet Potato Cheesecake!

    1 package fat free cream cheese (softened)
    1 package 1/3 fat cream cheese (softened)
    1tsp Vanilla
    2tsp each nutmeg, cinnamon
    4 scoops ON 100% Gold Standard Vanilla Whey
    2 cups peeled and boiled Sweet Potato
    Stevia to Taste (15-20 packets for me)

    3tbs Sliced Almonds

    Pre Heat oven to 350 degrees.Coat pie pan or dish with pam and add coarsely crushed almond slices to coat as evenly as possible. Toast almonds in oven but be sure not to burn them!!! Mix all filling ingredients together in large bowl. *Whey Protein makes cream cheese runnier, no idea why* then pour into pan, smooth out evenly. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until center is firm. Cool on rack for an hour then place in fridge until cool. Enjoy with some fat free whipped cream or lite cool whip.

  25. I almost always have 2 scoops of protein powder a day. Smoothies are my favorite – frozen blueberries, protein, frozen banana, soy milk and spinach. Mmm, lick.

  26. I use the Casein chocolate for my bedtime snack everynight with kashi cereal and almond butter! Helps me sleep all through the night…I’m hooked!

  27. I use Gold standard whey (choclate) with glycomaize for my pre and post workout shake. And before bed I use Casien (choclate creme) to keep me full all night!

  28. One of favorite ways to use ON whey protein is simply put strawberry banana flavored ON whey into orange juice, tastes juice like a smoothie.

  29. I use ON Gold Standard cake batter flavour to make oatmeal cookies as part of a high protein, high fibre snack. I simply mix the cake batter flavour with milk, egg whites, water and instant oatmeal. Add nuts, cinnamon and nutmeg and bake. SIMPLY DELICIOUS! I’m going to have some now.

  40. I have been using ON protein products for 3 months now, and will use nothing else! My favorite it the Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Chocolate flavor. I can probably tell you I work out just so I can down a shake afterwards. I recently started using ON casein and have seen a difference my body. My favor was to use the chocolate flavor (aside from straight) is in my chocolate pumpkin protein bars. OMG to die for.

  43. I use ON All-Natural products almost exclusively. I used to use the all-natural whey and all-natural casein, but now I’ve discovered the all-natural Pro Complex which is much more convenient. I use a scoop of whey in my coffee every morning, and a shake of Pro Complex with almond butter, ON Fitness Fiber, and some Cinnamon in the afternoon. I typically only get the vanilla flavor because it’s the most versatile.

  71. I add ON protein to my smoothies. One banana, couple spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt, small handful of frozen strawberries, some milk and either casein (morning shake) or whey (pre-workout). Then another serving of ON whey with milk post-workout with some added creatine and glutamine.

  82. I use some Cookies and Creme Casein, mix it with milk, throw in some peanut butter and blend it. It tastes like those peanut butter Girl Scout Cookies. My five year old nephew even learned how to make them for me. He says it’s fun.

  83. I use ON NitroCore 24, gold meal, and Casein protein for nutriton. I have had abdominal surgeries and I am not able to eat food, so ON has kept me alive. I am getting the protein my body needs to recover and help with healing. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for those supplements.

    My favorite ON is Gold 100% Whey Banana Cream. Once I mixed 1 scoop of ON powder, a cup of fresh milk, a cup of Bliss Fruit Yoghurt and 2 Snickers Bars into the blender. I TASTED HEAVEN ! ^^

  96. Lately I’ve been using vanilla protein powder (Jay Robb) in my Fage plain Greek yogurt along with pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice and vanilla stevia. It’s like pumpkin pie but it’s quick and full of protein. Great giveaway!

  102. And lastly, I use some of my father-in-law’s rice protein powder that’s chocolate flavored – it’s nice and subtle, not chalky – and that’s all I’ve ever tried! I put it my smoothies and oatmeal most mornings or after a workout but haven’t tried any other flavors before; I think chocolate PB sounds amazing!

One scoop in my moring oatmeal, a scoop of Chocolate Gold Standard Whey mixed with CGT10 pre-workout, a scoop of Whey, scoop of Choc Supreme Casein, and more CGT10 post workout. In my oatmeal for breakfast (EVERY MORNING), afternoon snack of home made protein pudding, bed time snack of a thick protein shake with the consistency of melting ice cream…AMAZING! Did I forget to mention they are all ON Protein? Cookies & Cream, Choc&PB, Chocolate Supreme…how can you go wrong?! Amino Energy is also amazing :) <3

  106. I have ON powder at least twice a day, I like to mix up the way I have and what with. My favourite is to use it in protein pancakes. My favourite flavour is any form of chocolate !!!! :)
